AFE = Air Forces in Europe. FAS = Flesland Air Station, Norway
(until the 1990s). 84 = Year of issue 1984.
B = Normal civilian type vehicles.

U.S. AIR FORCE - OFFICIAL USE ONLY. 94 = Year of issue 1994.

For some reason, the legend appears to have been overpainted.

AFI = Allied Forces in Italy. This series in use since 1968. N = Napoli.

Dutch Forces in Germany. This series in use since 1975.
N = Netherlands Forces in Germany.

military personnel (SHAPE) since 2001.
Expired end of July 2003.
Yellow lettering on the sticker = Tax free.

US Forces in Germany. Private vehicle series 2000-07. Normal series
German plates optional since 2005 and mandatory since 2007.
First two letters were chosen among combinations not used in the
German system. Long plates used AD.

The blue band with the NATO symbol and the letters USA.
The shield used was similar to the German state seals. The text
means Armed Forces of the United States of America in Germany.

US Forces in Germany. Private vehicle series 2000-07. American size
plates used AF from July until September 2000, but that series was
discontinued (replaced by HK) because it was interpreted as
American (or Allied) Forces. This was not intended as the purpose of
the new plates was to make them look almost like normal German.

plate style. No coding. Though officially only for US Forces the driver
of this typical Italian camper van was an Italian serving in Germany.
