CURRENTLY ISSUED LICENSE PLATES

New private and commercial plates were introduced in 2003. New plates for foreign travel were introduced in 2006. They now have the letters IR.


FORMER ISSUES - STILL VALID

42419/14-Tehran / TEH-94633 Lower plate: Normal series 1969-93. Orange plate (faded to yellow) = Commercial and public transport. The registration translates as 42419 above 14-Tehran. Upper plate: Foreign travel series 1969-98.
TEH = Tehran (all foreign travel plates had the code for Tehran).

42419/14-Tehran / TEH-94634 Lower plate: Normal series
1969-93. Orange plate (faded to yellow) = Commercial and public transport. The registration translates as 42419 above 14-Tehran. Upper plate: Foreign travel series 1969-98.
TEH = Tehran (all foreign travel plates had the code for Tehran). This is the trailer to TEH-94633 above. Foreign travel plates had a different number for the trailer, whereas the Farsi plates were the same for truck and trailer.

39774/14-Tehran / TEH-93601 Upper plate: Normal series
1969-93. Orange plate (faded to white) = Commercial and public transport. The registration translates as 39774 above 14-Tehran. Lower plate: Foreign travel series 1969-98.
TEH = Tehran (all foreign travel plates had the code for Tehran).

TEH-93602 Foreign travel series 1969-98.
TEH = Tehran (all foreign travel plates had the code for Tehran). These plates were used in addition to normal plates.

Qazvin/11T389 / THR-71315 Upper plate: Normal series 1993-2003. Orange band = Commercial and public transport.
The registration translates as Qazvin above 11T389.
Lower plate: Foreign travel series 1998-2006.
THR = Tehran (all foreign travel plates had the code for Tehran).
